Growing up in Taiwan, I would go to great lengths to avoid bath time—crying, screaming, or even pretending to be lifeless. It wasn't that I didn't want to be clean; it was because conventional soaps and shampoos would irritate my skin, leaving it red and uncomfortable. Even the supposedly better options would burn or sting. We tried everything—from dermatologist-recommended pharmaceutical brands to all-natural products—but nothing seemed to work for my sensitive skin.

My Grandma to the Rescue

Then, one day, my grandma introduced me to Soapberries—small fruits that indigenous people used for washing long before the advent of modern soap. When rubbed, these berries create a lather similar to soap but without irritating my skin. For the first time, I felt secure in the shower and truly comfortable in my own skin.

Sharing Nature’s Gifts

Discovering this gentle soap fruit was a revelation, but sharing it was even better. Not everyone has a grandma like mine, but everyone deserves to experience the wonders of nature. After college, my friend Brian and I took a leap of faith. We left our jobs, embarked on a rollercoaster journey, and went from nearly going broke to selling on national TV.
